Thanks for a great season
Nationals is over, everyone is home safe, and the smoke has settled on our first season. We had a very successful season both on and off the mat. We won a lot of matches and medals but that is not what we are most proud of. We had kids working hard resulting in life altering changes to their self esteem and health. If our kids were ever on their back, they would never give up and always fight with everything they had. Our kids had no quit in them and would always battle through the adversity.
We often tell our kids wrestling does not define them. It is the vehicle we use to get where we want to go. To help us learn how to deal with the hard life lessons coming our way and work hard for what we want to achieve. Thank you so much to all the families that have supported the athletes and club through our first season.
We resume practices to prepare for Western Canada Games and the North American Indigenous Games. We will be running the Last Mountain Wrestling Camp again this summer, stay tuned for details. If you are looking for the opportunity to gain valuable mat time with great training partners, a friendly inclusive atmosphere, and high-level coaching look no further.
AWA in Weyburn
Another great showing for AWA in Weyburn. Club kids of all ages competed their hearts out and made us all proud. One thing is for sure, with all the young talent, AWA has a bright future on the mat.

AWA Club BBQ
After the summer camp it was time to let the AWA family come together for a night of good food, great company, and lots of laughs. A big thank you to the Petryna family for hosting a fantastic night and welcoming us all to their beautiful home. One of my favorite things about AWA is the fact that it is not just a club, but a family. It is always nice to get everyone together for these amazing events.

2019 Last Mountain Wrestling Camp
Another year in the books. This summer we had a blast. The kids learned some skills, had dynamic morning work outs, and battled mother nature with a very violent storm. We would like to thank all the parents that gave us the opportunity to coach the kids this summer. We had a great time and hope the kids enjoyed it.

AWA 2019 National Squad
These 8 kids went to Fredericton and left it all on the mat. They brought home 6 national medals, a most out standing wrestler award, all 4 girls placed top 5 in the country, and placed 2nd in U17 & U19 Greco team standings. There were some nervous boys the first day, some emotional girls the second day, but everyone one of these kids performed admirably and made all of us proud. It has been an honor working with such a great group of people this season.

AWA 2019 National Medalists
After a hard year of training the athletes put all the chips on the table in Fredericton. All 8 kids gave it their all and performed well. The competition was tough, and we got to witness the next level of athlete we need to aspire to compete with. You need to be there on the mat to gain that knowledge and experience. Congratulations to our national medalists for hitting the podium this year.

The first year of AWA wrestling has really exceeded all expectations when we started. We could not have imagined we would be blessed with so many great families supporting and helping grow our program to new heights. We took 12 kids and 2 adults to Sask opens. All 12 kids won medals and took AWA to second overall, in 3 out of 4 age categories, behind a well coached Huskies squad with 40 entries. We took 6 kids to the freshie-bantam provincials and every kid won first or second. We are very proud of these kids if it isn't obvious.
Sask wrestling has a bright future ahead with all the great clubs building the grassroots level. Riffel was jam packed with support and excitement for the kids this past weekend. We are really excited for the opportunity to continue to coach and mentor these kids to the next level and contribute to the continued success of wrestling in Saskatchewan.

2019 South Sask Open
What has 3 heads, big smiles and takes on all challenges in front of them?
The 3 girl wolfpack at AWA. These girls have been unbelievable this season. They just started wrestling and have already knocked off a couple very talented multiple time provincial champions this year. They are only in grade 7/8 but they are already scary and able to hang with the high school girls.

Swift Current Titans Tournament
The AWA family has a lot to be proud of these days. Our kids are really performing well on and off the mats. We had the opportunity to take nine kids to the Swift Current Titans Tournament. All nine kids brought back medals and positive memories from the experience. Big shout out to Jayce who went the entire tournament without a single point scored on him.
We would like to thank all the families for coming out and supporting the whole team at all the tournaments. It is easy to support your own children, but it is a great feeling when any kid from the club is on the mat and we have the entire AWA family there supporting each other. It’s like having the 13th man in your corner and really gives our kids a boost.

AWA Christmas Camp
The AWA Christmas Camp was a great success. We would like to thank all the athletes that gave up 3 days of their break to come put in a lot of sweat and hard work when they could have been home relaxing. It is truly awesome to see all the young talent coming up in the sport and building Saskatchewan wrestling.

Weyburn Cobra Classic
The Weyburn Cobra Classic was a huge success. Sask Wrestling had a great day with a lot of kids leaving with smiles. Our AWA kids had a very good day bringing home a lot of hardware and confidence. Big thanks to Weyburn and all the parents that came out to support the kids!

AWA Girls in Action at the Huskie Open
There was a lot to be excited about this weekend. AWA sent 5 kids up to Saskatoon to the Huskie open. Grade 8 Hope wrestled up an age category in the Jr Huskie take down tournament. Hope and McKenna both came away with medals for their efforts.
Jenna and Eve, both high school kids, moved up to wrestling in the Huskie open to test their skills at the next ages group vs the university wrestlers. Both girls wrestled very well, Eve came home with a medal after beating the University of Saskatchewan wrestler in the bronze medal match.

All good things must come to and end. Closing day of the camp, time to clean up the matts. We were very fortunate to have 40+ kids on the first year. It went great and by the feedback we received it looks to be even bigger next year. Thank you to everyone that participated. Tubbing, mud wrestling, archery, capture the flag, marshmallow roasts and of coarse lots of wrestling kept us all busy for the week.
We would like to thank all the great volunteers that helped make this event possible. Without our kitchen staff, parents bringing out boats for tubbing and other volunteers helping make this camp run it would not have been such a great success. We look forward to improving and making it even better next year.

Last Mountain Wrestling Camp
Advanced Wrestling Academy ran the first annual Last Mountain Wrestling Camp from August 26-31. A full week of hard work, learning, mentoring and most of all tons of fun. While most kids are sitting around playing video games in the summer these kids were working their butts off and developing high level skills to take into the wrestling season.
We are so impressed with the behavior and work ethic of these young athletes. It really shows what great parents we have in the wrestling community. When the facility administrators first heard a group of wrestlers were coming to the camp they were worried. After it was done they asked us to come back anytime because this was the best group they have ever dealt with.
Great job Everyone!

Great Day for Sask Wrestling
Thanks to the Weyburn Wrestling Club for hosting us for the two-session camp. It was a great day for the sport of wrestling in Saskatchewan. Multiple teams working together to promote the sport and help kids. We would like to thank everyone that came out and gave us the opportunity to train the kids.
Advanced Wrestling Academy will be running the Last Mountain Wrestling Camp from August 26-31 at the Strasbourg Bible Camp. We look forward to seeing the kids grow and thrive.
